Where You Can Purchase Replacement Parts and Accessories for
Three Speed Bicycles
Not all parts that were used on bicycles of the past are easily
found. But many are still available. And some are still in
production. The links to other websites that I've listed
below will help you find parts for three speed bicycles.
Brooks is still making most models of the tensioned leather
saddles that were original equipment on many English three speed
bicycles. For over 50 years these saddles have been as close to
perfect in comfort and durability as anyone has ever achieved.
They are still the best on the market. That may be hard to
understand for anyone who thinks that everything is always getting
better, more advanced, as time goes on. One needs only to
understand the design of a Raleigh Model DL-1 Roadster to see that
that assumption isn't true. Unless something drastic happens in
the future, the peak of bicycle manufacture has already passed
about fifty years ago.
Sturmey Archer is still making the AW hub and replacement parts
for it. Sturmey Archer has added many updated products as well.
Many of the other parts are only available as NOS, (New Old Stock
or New Original Stock). Then there are also used parts. Pedals and
handlebar grips that are even suitable are hard to find. Even
among the best rubber block pedals I haven't been able to find any
that are rebuildable as the originals were. And when I find
rebuidable pedals they are not rubber block type but plastic
block. Handlebar grips that are made in France are close to the
DARE type black rubber grips. Any bicycle shop could get those if
only they knew where to find them. Please email me at jvernooy@yahoo.com for
information.
Ebay is one of the biggest
markets selling vintage parts. It is also one of the greatest in
variety of items for sale. Vintage bicycle parts is only a small
part of Ebay yet there are usually plenty of them for sale on Ebay
at any given time. Being an auction site it can be one of the most
exciting, and at the same time challenging, places to buy vintage
bicycle parts.
