Links

This page was last updated June 4, 2004.

There are a lot of websites about vintage three speed bicycles and not so many about the new three speed bicycles. Of course that's probably normal because there are probably a lot more vintage three speed bicycles than new ones. Three speed bicycles have been around for about 100 years. Below are links to both vintage three speeds and new three speeds, separated as much as possible by type and listed in the order, within groups, that I found them. (OK, I admit it. Sometimes I find a link after someone shows it to me.) If you would like to make suggestions for additional links please email me at jmvernooy@hotmail.com . Your suggestions may or may not be used. I have a definite preference for European three speeds, especially those that are made in England and use a Sturmey Archer three speed hub. That will be reflected by the links that I have listed and will list.

The links on this page are outside this site.

Similar New Bicycles Are Still Popular In Some Countries

Roadsters of India

These bicycles are predominantly, if not all, single speed bicycles. But they appear to be very similar to the bicycles that used to be made in England by companies such as BSA, Hercules, Phillips, Raleigh,
and others. In fact the first link is to the company in India that today makes roadster type bicycles with the names BSA, Hercules, and Phillips. Most if not all the roadsters made in India seem to be single speed bicycles. Putting a three speed hub into the rear wheel would be a simple job for a bicycle mechanic. Take a look at what they offer and then try not to feel disadvantaged by what is offered in the U. S. A. in the way of roadsters. I don't know how they compare in quality to the vintage English roadsters. If you have opinions about these bicycles, please e-mail me at jmvernooy@hotmail.com.

TI Cycles of India - Has a complete range of bicycle types. The roadsters appear to all be single speed, but they have rod brakes and Westwood type rims. This is the company that makes BSA, Hercules, and Phillips bicycles in India.

Hi Bird Bicycles and Components - More single speed roadsters, assorted derailleur bicycles and accessories.

Sun Bike India - More single speed roadsters and assorted derailleur bicycles. They even have accessories whose designs are a great compliment to one of the largest bicycle manufacturers. They have 24 and 26 TPI BSCV RH & LH thread bottom bracket cups, tubular crown roadster front forks, roadster cranksets, roadster pedals, etc.

New Light Bicycles - More single speed roadsters, assorted derailleur bicycles and accessories.

Shelco Bike Industries - More single speed roadsters and assorted derailleur bicycles. They also offer components including  24 and 26 TPI BSCV RH & LH thread bottom bracket cups, Raleigh type crank axles, roadster tires in the correct sizes, roadster pedals, rod brakes, cable brakes, double bar roadster frames, roadster steel rims, full chain case, etc.
